This Coastal Queensland Hospital requires an Intensivist to work in their modern 104-bed facility which was opened in May 1997. This facility provides acute services, including Accident and Emergency, Day surgery, Maternity, Medical, Anaesthetics, Occupational Therapy, Outpatients, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Psychiatric, Radiology, Renal unit, Speech therapy and Surgical. The ICU unit has 3 ICU beds and 5 CC/HDU beds. As the unit's first staff specialist, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop the ICU. After hours/ on call is shared with the Anaesthetic Consultants. Excellent support is provided by a major centre with the use of video conferencing. This hospital is located 300 km north of Brisbane and the city is one of the fastest growing in Australia with potential development which is set for further growth. According to the 2006 census, the population of this area is 52,200, the average rent is $190 per week and an average house price is $306,000. For those with a family the city has well appointed public and private schools as well as a TAFE. The town has a variety of shops for your shopping needs. The region has a pleasant subtropical climate. Temperatures range from 14 to 23 degrees Centigrade in winter and 22 to 29 degrees Centigrade in the summer months. Rainfall is low and there are more fine days than other Queensland holiday centres. It is known as the 'Whale Watch Capital of the World' with the annual arrival of humpback whales between August and November and has 14 kilometres of golden beaches safe for children. There is no shortage of things to do and see - from relaxation on untouched beaches to water sports for those who are a little more adventure orientated. There are direct flights to Brisbane, Sydney and several local flights. Selection Criteria: - To be considered for this opportunity you will have the following:- * FCICM or equivalent * MBBS * 12 months clinical experience gained within a country with a comparable healthcare system to Australia. Comparable countries are:- UK, Ireland, NZ, USA and Canada * Hold current registration or be eligible for registration with AHPRA * If your medical degree was gained in a country where English is NOT a native or first language you will be required to take an English language. Accepted English language tests are IELTS (minimum score of 7 in each category), PLAB, OET and NZREX.
