Refreshing your resume

If it has been several months, maybe years since you last updated your resume, then it could be time for you to spend some time refreshing the content. By making your resume up-to-date you are more likely to stand out and be of interest to a potential employer who is reading it.

Always ensure you update your training courses, accomplishments and especially jobs. Even if you have acquired new skills at work, make sure you add these in as they happen.

Over time some technical jargon and buzzwords change so if you are referring to certain keywords, ensure that they are the most recent and updated so you do not appear to be old and outdated.

As you add new information in, make sure you take some old or irrelevant information out. If you have changed careers, you may want to omit some very old jobs that are totally un-related to what you are doing now.

Think about your direction and objectives and what you want to highlight right at the beginning of the resume. If you are changing careers, you may want to make it clear what transferable skills you have and what role you are moving from, to.
|

Just remember that every time you think something changes with your skills and in your career, add it to your resume. This way you are always refreshing it and it won’t become a hard task the next time you apply for a job!
